When an American visitor arrives in India, unfortunately, they are treated like royalty! I say unfortunately because we really aren’t as important as we are made to feel. In any case, one must be gracious and accept these invitations. I stay my down-to-earth self when I give a talk, as I did recently whe I was invited to be the “chief guest” at the annual celebration at an elite private school in Chennai to speak on my topic of “student centered learning”. I usually speak in Tamil briefly and people smile and are so happy. I got all the parents and grandparents standing – and they loved that. The students put on quite a show and I was given a lovely status of Sarasvati in honor of my presence. Sarasvati, the goddess of education and music, is a very good fit for me.
